This week in the purple room we continued learning about Passover.
In our math and science center we have been trying to make bricks out of sand, oil and water, then we used the bricks to build cities and pyramids. Our friends thought brick making and building was very hard work, and a discussion followed about how hard the Jewish people had to work in Egypt.
The hammers are back. All week in the purple room you can hear banging because we have been making our Seder plates, thanks to Lev Lvov for the wood pieces! Our friends have been engraving the wood with all the food that belongs on the Seder plate, each word opened a conversation about why we eat that and how it makes us feel.
Our friends have been working on making their own Hagada that they can use during the Passover Seder, they have written and drawn pictures of every step of the Seder. I am sure they will love to tell all of your guests about each page.

This week in the purple room we continued learning and preparing for Passover.
On Monday and Tuesday our friends started cleaning our classroom and looking for all the Chametz. To clean our classroom we used buckets with soapy water and scrubbers. We all worked together to scrub all the chairs and tables, then we mopped all the floors. There are 2 buckets in the dramatic play area for our friends to separate all the Chametz from what we are allowed to eat on Passover.
On Wednesday and Thursday we made moon sand from sand and oil, we used the moon sand to build pyramids and bricks. Our friends realized how hard it was to make the bricks and build buildings.
This week we also started learning about the haggada and began creating our own by writing all the steps that we follow during the Passover Seder.

Ben brought in a nut and a bolt that’s his papa uses to build a fire pit.
Nosson brought in his moms necklace that she doesn’t wear.
Nechama brought in a red nose and a noisemaker, unfortunately she wasn’t able to borrow her brothers nose.

This week in the purple room we started learning about the next holiday: Passover.
On Monday Morah D set up mystery boxes with different Passover pictures and objects. Mystery box question was "What is the theme of the week". Each child pulled out the pictures or object and realized everything they pulled out had to do with Passover. We read Pesach Ba so that our friend can see how our house is changing for Passover.
On Tuesday we washed coins in soapy water and scrubbed each coin till it was shiny, because our house has to be very clean and Chametz free for Passover. We read the story Izzy the Whiz and the Passover McClean, so our friends can see how we need to make sure and check each spot in our house to make sure we have no Chametz in our houses for Passover. On Wednesday and Thursday we played a Passover memory game, this activity helped us talk about the different things we do and see on Passover, while also working on our memory.
In our art center this week we have been working on transferring art from shaving cream, hair gel and paint on to paper. Our friends squeezed out some gel or shaving cream then squirted different paint colors over it. They then used a pencil to make a design they liked and then put a paper on top. After removing the paper the design transferred to the paper but the shaving cream and gel didn't. Our friends also wanted to change up the seating in our library, we had so much fun sitting on our tires during Purim, so we painted the tires and put them in our new library.

This week in the purple room we continued learning about Purim, we made our own megillahs and our project for the Purim auction.
To make our Megillah each friend drew a picture of what happened in the story of Purim and described what they drew, then we glued all the pictures in order and rolled them up.
Each day this week was a fun dress up day! On Monday we dressed up in pajamas and slippers. Tuesday was backwards day, everyone came in with different socks and their clothing inside out, Morah D even wore socks on her head instead of her feet. Wednesday was crazy hair day with cool and wacky hairstyles that all the friends came to school with. Friday was costume day and fun day. We had a visit from Lovely buttons, played in the bounce house outside, had our faces painted, and received Mishloach Manos.

This week the purple room is getting ready for Purim.
Our class has been turned in to castle with thrones made of tires and pillows. It’s so comfortable that all our friends take whatever work they are doing into the castle and lounge on their throne. Our dramatic play area has become a hamentashen factory, next week we will be making and baking real hamentashen all week long.
To prepare for Purim we have been making masks and graggers using lids from mason jars and filling them with beans, beads and stones, then painting and decorating them with Purim pictures. Our friend have also been working on creating there very own Megillah, they have been drawing pictures of the Purim story.
In our math area we have been sorting pennies by the years they were created, all the way from 1950 to 2018. This activity has sparked great conversations about if the penny was made before they were born or if they remembered anything that happened during that year. They found a penny from 2016, Morah D told them that’s the year she moved to Arizona, and they started talking about what they remember, they remembered that Shaya’s Mom told them that Morah Ora’s friend will be their teacher. A penny from 2017 reminded them about a very special wedding they all attended, and they were all quiet during the chuppah. When giving tzedaka all our friends look at the pennies to see the year the penny was made.

This week in the purple room we where getting ready for Tu B'Shvat and grandparents day.
This whole week out friends have been learning, planting and watching how plants grow from a small seed. They learned what plants need, from sun to water and to what plants breath in. Each friend used a kidney bean and put in a wet napkin and watched everyday to see what happens. After a few day our friends saw roots coming out from the bean. The next day we planted the root and covered it with a blanket, because roots don’t like sun light directly on them. Thank you to Shternie she brought our friends pencils with seeds. Our friends where very eager to plant them right away.
For grandparents day we made beautiful keychains for their grandparents, we traced our hands and wrote a special message for each grandparent.
Share time was all about the letter J
Nosson brought in a jump rope from his garage and showed us how to use it.
Vella brought in jam in a jar and we all got to try her strawberry jam, yummy!
Shimmy brought in his awesome jet pack that his papa made.
Nechama brought in her baby jaguar that her grandma bought her for Hanukkah.
Ben brought jam that was hard and had a cover.

In this week's parsha of Yisro we learned all about how Yisro helped Moshe divide the
responsibility of answering the Jews questions. We also learned about how the Jews received the
Torah, we had a super fun interactive Torah receiving of our own where Rabbi Tzvi brought a
real live Torah for us to see.

Plants and Tu Bshvat
After a wonderful few weeks of learning about Shabbat and preparing our Shabbat boxes we dove straight into Tu B'shvat.
Our purple room friends started learning about our garden and how to take care of it, how to water it and what our garden needs.
Tubeshvat is the birthday of the trees and this is the day where we plant new trees and eat new food that grows on the tree.
In the purple room we went much deeper and learned what plants need to grow, the different parts of a plant, how plants breathe in and out, and how plants eat.
Our friends started by learning and seeing different seeds and how a root grows from a seed. We watered beans and checked everyday to see how the roots come out from the seed. Our friends also learned what stems and leaves are. The root of the plant collects the water the plant needs, the leaves collect the sunlight and the stem turns and bends the plant towards the sun. This process is called photosynthesis.
We learned how important plants are to our life and animals and we are very important to the trees. Trees breathe out oxygen, and people and animals need oxygen to survive. People and animals breathe out carbon dioxide, and trees breathe in carbon dioxide for them to survive. We needs trees just like they need people and animals. Hashem created the world in such a perfect way!
In this week's parsha of Beshalach we learned about how the Jewish people left Egypt. When the Jewish people got to the sea they couldn't continue, so Hashem made a big miracle and split the sea for the Jews. After the Jews crossed over the sea they had a lot of traveling in the desert, so every night G-D would send maan a special kind of food, so they can collect it in the morning and have something to eat. They also had a special rock that would become a fountain for the Jews to drink from.
